Dr Matias Alet

Argentina

I am a Stroke Neurologist and Associate Professor at the University of Buenos Aires, currently working in two certified stroke units in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I graduated with honors from the University of Buenos Aires in 2011 and completed my neurology residency at Hospital J. M. Ramos Mejía, where I later served as Head of Neurology Residents. My passion for Vascular Neurology led me to pursue a two-year fellowship at Fleni.

I’ve had the opportunity to participate in international stroke studies like SOCRATES, NAVIGATE-ESUS, and THALES, as well as in research groups focused on post-stroke epilepsy and cerebral venous thrombosis. I’ve presented my work at various national and international congresses and contributed to the first local guideline for acute ischemic stroke management. My research interests are primarily centered on understanding the epidemiology of stroke in Argentina, exploring aspects like prevalence, incidence, and mortality. I am also member of the Editorial Board of International Journal of Stroke and Neurologia Argentina.

In addition to my research and clinical work, I’m actively involved in several neurological organizations, including the Argentine Neurological Society, where I served as secretary and now sit on the board of directors. I am also passionate about sharing knowledge on stroke with healthcare professionals and the community. Currently, I’m part of the World Stroke Organization’s Future Stroke Leaders Program and serve as a mentor in the Angels Initiative mentorship programs in South America.
